Early Spring: Here’s Marion’s garden, getting ready for planting.

Marion harvesting her lettuce. Yes, she was awesome to live next to- always fresh vegetables! I swear she planted enough to make sure our whole alley could have fresh salad all summer.

Marion is my parent’s neighbor and has been for almost 50 years. She has an enviable garden, full of herbs, fruits, vegetables, and dahlias to swoon over. Whenever I smell sweet peas, I think of her garden. As a kid, I would wander through the hedge connecting our yards, and pop sweet raspberries right into my mouth. Sometimes it was the peas, leaving a trail of pea pods behind me. Now her grandchildren and my kids play in her garden and eat the same delectable treats. I was always impressed with her tidy rows of vegetables, the berry vines all neatly lined up. This quilt is inspired by her garden and her neat rows evenly lined up and intercrossed.
